The olive trees

BETWEEN MYTH AND REALITY

THE ORIGIN OF THE OLIVE TREE

The legend tells the story of an ancient contention between Athena and the sea god Poseidon for the possession of Attica in ancient Greece). Zeus then decides that the winner would have to create the most useful gift for humanity. Poseidon threw his trident into the ground thus Athena pierced the ground and in this way created the olive tree. It was only then that Zeus granted Athena with the victory deciding that the tree would fully satisfy the needs of humanity because of its precious wood and juicy fruits.

NOCELLARA ETNEA TREE

Our olive trees are vigorous and are somewhat rough, their bearing densely branched and their foliage crowded. The plants grow only here, in the central and eastern parts of Sicily, at the foot of the great Etna volcano. The Nocellara Etnea grows in various environments and is considered to be among the best Italian cultivars due to the particular industrial, organoleptic characteristics of its stone-fruits. They are resistant to flies, cold and lack of water. They appear on the branches abundantly but not always regularly.
